Every time there is news on election and whenever the analysis starts on TV channels and newspapers, what we hear are the names of certain castes and various mathematical equations that are unique for different constituencies in different states. Following are some such discussions written with a mix of humor as well. These are applicable to every region in India (North, East, West and South)
1. The state X is dominated by caste group ABC and hence the OO party is planning to woo the ABC caste group with promises like free power, reservations, 20% of the state's revenues, 20% of the land in the state, helping their kids with exam papers for major competitive exams etc. If the OO party is assured of the support from the ABC group, it has good chances of winning the election in the northern districts of the state because the OO party already has the support of LBS community. LBS community has been traditionally the supporter of OO party. Now the combination of LBS+ABC will give a clear majority in addition to the support of the MSY caste group which any way will vote for the OO party. After all the OO party's chief ministerial candidate belongs to MSY caste group.
2. The state Y has huge pockets of the MSB community. The FF party has been allowing free illegal electrical power to those pockets for decades and hence the people from the community are their traditional vote bank. Now due to the competition from the GG party which promised to strike off all cases against the criminals in the group, there is a challenge. Hence the FF party also promised that even future criminals will be saved without any charges being filed. The party also promised that charges for any criminal activities committed by the MSB community will surely be filed against some other group which is small in number in the state.
We all know that the so called largest democracy in the world functions in the above manner for each constituency across all the districts and states in the country.
But many of us blame the politicians. Surely politicians are not responsible for this mess. They know that people are voting across caste and community lines and they just are trying to exploit the situation.
How can they do all this if people just assess political parties based on their ideology and performance? But many of us do not assess any party with proper data and hence the mathematics prevails.
